Discover the hidden pressure points in your body to unclog blocked sinuses and get instant relief from common cold, migraines, and other ailments!
1. Between the Eyes
The center of the T-zone area is the most important pressure point for treating sinus. It is located between the eyes and right above the nose bridge. Press here firmly with two fingers for two-three minutes. This will help to drain the mucus and remove the build-up of lymphatic fluid.
2. On the Side of the Nostrils
Place your fingers on either side of your nostrils and press gently but firmly. Ensure your fingers are at the right angles to the points and press for a minute, in order to allow the sinuses to evacuate out. This particular pressure point is also significant in treating pain behind the cheeks and preventing infections of the upper respiratory tract.
3. Bridge of the Nose
Locate the spot just underneath the ends of your eyes and at the top of your nose bridge. Then using both your index fingers, apply pressure gently for five-seven minutes. This is the point where the pain linked with sinuses originates, which means you will experience some relief from the fluid build-up behind your eyes. It’s a good idea to do a little massage here.
4. Under the Cheeks
This pressure point is a little elusive to locate. It’s present just below the pupil and can be located by resting the finger on the cheekbones. Once you manage to feel the bone, press in and up against the cheek. Since this point is a bit tender, it will be easy to release most of the pressure locked within the sinuses and Eustachian tubes. It’s advisable to massage around the cheeks if you feel pain in the maxillary sinuses.
5. The Philtrum
The philtrum is the groove-like space between your nose and the middle of your lips. Press in and up gently or rub in circular motions to stimulate this particular pressure point and activate effective drainage of excess mucus.
Heal this point by applying pressure on the ridge of your brows and then tracing it simultaneously with your thumb. Start by pressing the inner ridge and then move outwards on each side. Repeat this motion for two minutes, in order to experience considerable relief from the pain.
7. Apex of the Neck
This point lies in the hollow between your skull and tip of the spine. You can activate it by pressing firmly with your thumb and holding the pressure down for about 5 minutes. It’s an amazing way to regulate breathing patterns, relieving tension in the head, as well as healing the symptoms of sinusitis. Additionally, it helps to fight the discomfort experienced during common cold and even enhances mental clarity.
Alternatively, you can cross your hands in the form of a V and rub gently but firmly on either side of your neck. This is a great technique to release lymph fluid and clear stuffy noses and upper sinuses.
8. Two Thumbs Apart
Another great way to relieve sinus pressure is by massaging the area at the base of the skull. To locate this point, start from the middle and move your thumbs outwards till you find the two hollow spaces at the base of your skill. Stimulate the area by pressing in and up for a few seconds. Hold the pressure for about 5 minutes.
9. Push the Roof of Your Oral Cavity & Press between Eyebrows
If you feel that the blocked sinus is moving up higher in your head, you have to try a different point to unclog your nose and head. This method involves applying pressure against the roof of the oral cavity with the help of the tongue while pressing the skin between the eyebrows at the same time. Stimulating both these areas at the same time enhances the magnitude of sinus drainage and brings about rapid relief. Maintaining the pressure for 20 seconds straight further contributes to the result. Do this a few times, and you will actually feel the movement of the accumulated lymph towards the back of your throat after releasing the tongue and removing the finger.
10. The Inner Gate
If you notice, there is a crease in the middle of your arm. Start tracing the area from that crease to the middle of your wrist’s crease using two fingers. You will find the spot is tender and may even hurt to press. Massage the area with the tip of your thumb as much as you can.
11. Between the Thumb & Index Fingers
Located between your index finger and your thumb, this point is great for relieving sinuses, as well as a general tension in the head, neck, and shoulders. It’s even able to help with migraines. To locate the spot, rest your hand flat on a surface. Then, let your thumb and index finger rest against each other, and find a point that is elevated the most. Squeeze it with both your fingers and hold the pressure for some time. Repeat the procedure for the other hand.
12. Finger Tips
Your hands are indeed a reservoir of sinus pressure points! Here, the spotlight is on your fingertips that are easy to activate, to treat cold congestion. Just press the fingertips on both your hands one by one. This will allow better drainage of the lymph and improve circulation, to prevent pressure build-up shortly.
13. Finger Nails
You have pressure points on your fingertips just beside your fingernails. Press them lightly, one by one for a short while to improve circulation and normalize the flow of qi to the affected regions of your body.
14. The Toes
Located on the tips of your toes, these points are often the victim of poor circulation. Squeeze the toe tips just as you do with your fingers, one by one for a minute or so. You can go clockwise or anticlockwise; the possibilities are endless. Some people swear by starting with the left, while some people believe in massaging from right to left. You can experiment till you find something that works best for you. Pressing for quite some time help the sinuses to drain out and even precludes another infection.
15. The Toe Nails
Those tiny areas outside of the toenails are the hidden gems in acupressure. When pressed, they improve circulation of the sinuses and help to clear out any fluid build-up. Apply little pressure on these points and massage first in the clockwise motion and then go left and right. Repeat for a minute or till you experience relief.
16. Balls of the Feet
If blocked middle ear and Eustachian tubes have been the bane of your existence all your life, it’s your time you divert your attention to the balls of your feet. These are effective pressure points for draining out congested lymph. Simply massage the area using gentle, circular motions of your fingertips. Do it regularly, or if possible, have someone else massage you, and you will find it easier to unclog your ears.
17. Collarbone Massage
Place your fingertips firmly on the apex of your collarbone and rub gently for a few minutes or until you feel the fluid moving downwards. Experts believe that this process will help you clear your throat easily. Moreover, you will also feel your ears unclog as the pressure releases.
If the above method is uncomfortable, or the pressure is too much to bear, you can try something different. Cross your hands in the form of a V-shape and use the same movement on the sides of your neck, to drain out the fluid build-up.
